The gestational sac can often be seen around the 5th week of pregnancy on transvaginal ultrasound. On abdominal ultrasound, it may not be clearly visible until around week 6.

Timing can vary with ovulation date, ultrasound quality, and beta-hCG level. If the sac is not seen when expected, your clinician will consider possibilities such as very early pregnancy or ectopic pregnancy.
