What is amniotic fluid and what does it do?
Amniotic fluid is the protective fluid surrounding the baby. It cushions outside pressure, helps keep temperature stable, and lets the baby move freely for musculoskeletal development.
The baby swallows this fluid and releases it back as urine, a cycle that supports lung and digestive system maturation. Leaking fluid or a low fluid level should always be evaluated.
