Pregnancy symptoms
Is cramping during pregnancy normal?
Mild cramping during pregnancy can happen as the uterus grows, ligaments stretch, digestion slows, or gas and constipation build up. Brief, mild cramps that improve with rest or hydration are often not an emergency on their own.
Seek medical advice promptly if cramps are severe, one-sided, persistent, or come with bleeding, fever, dizziness, shoulder pain, pain while urinating, regular contractions, or decreased baby movements later in pregnancy.
The location, timing, intensity, and your pregnancy week all matter. If cramping is new, worsening, or worrying you, checking in with your clinician is the safest next step.
